I want to be ‘WOW’ed!
Nowadays before I part with my hard-earned wonga I think thrice. I have to be, no… ‘NEED’ to be in ‘AWE’. TV advertisements these days are not as memorable as they were back in the day. For me, many seem slap-dash. Print advertisements have to work even harder. How are you going to entice us to give you the tens, hundreds or even thousands of pounds you command for your worthy product?
I trawl through many images for inspiration, and I do find a few per week that produce an exclamation of ‘WOW’ like the one below by Christian Dior.
As Hartman Jule quoted, ‘Advertising is a bit like playing make-believe.’
However, I am looking at the overall image, not the specific item.
So what makes a good advertisement? I came across these quotes that should make you think or say ‘Yes! So right’
Never write an advertisement which you wouldn’t want your family to read. You wouldn’t tell lies to your own wife. Don’t tell them to mine. ~David Ogilvy
Let advertisers spend the same amount of money improving their product that they do on advertising and they wouldn’t have to advertise it. ~Will Rogers
It used to be that people needed products to survive. Now products need people to survive. ~Nicholas Johnson
The very first law in advertising is to avoid the concrete promise and cultivate the delightfully vague. ~Bill Cosby
It is our job to make women unhappy with what they have. ~B. Earl Puckett,
Promise, large promise, is the soul of an advertisement. ~Samuel Johnson
